Higgins General Store

A new member, Raven Scott, posted pics to her general store in the group photo album.
This is a shot of the outside.

The sidewalk has moss growing in the cracks, and a gumball machine is at the front entrance.
On the right hand side you can see the notions department.

Inside there is a tempting selection of sewing needs.

This is the lower shelf:

This is the grocery section:

And you really must have a bathroom, so an extra room was built onto the back of the store.

An HBS nightstand was bashed to make the sink unit, and Sculpey clay used to make the sink and the bathroom mirror.
Of course, a general store must sell tools:

Note the weigh scale and paper bags!

Outside, to the right is a vegetable stand.

Lots of attention to detail here.

Betsey's Design à la Delft

Betsey made this project with the Doll's House Details group.
She shows how the initial plan was: "Here is the shop. I put a few bits on the floor to show some inventory. The paper design taped to the entrance will be used to make a painted floor cloth for the sitting area. I gold leafed the cash register."

"I marked off the parquet pieces with pencil and soaked the veneer sheets in warm water for about 5 minutes before I started to cut them up."

"Here is the design all gridded out for the room. This pattern is from The Decorator chapter of the book we are using. Just beginning to glue the pieces down."

"This is how the decorator project ended with the whole house occupied by a store downstairs and a studio upstairs."

Betsey has not refused permission to post.
In a separate project Betsey made these Staffordshire dogs from clay, paintes and varnished them.

Bakin' a Cake?

Fern Rouleau's quarter scale bakery, a 144 scale project.
She says: "the cook is an O gauge train person whose legs I cut off (I can still hear him screaming in pain) and repainted all white. I used masking tape to make a chef's hat and painted that white."
Check out her webshots album for more details.

Dress Shop

Tanya is working away at her dress shop and doing it brilliantly, as usual.
She says :
Once I finish this it will go in the window of my ladies shop. Don't ask me why I have the pink pocketbook up there with the lingerie and robe, it just looked good to me cause it was pink so I hung it up. Still have lots more to do. Oh, a few people have asked if this doll is Barbie scale, nope, she is just a little over 5 1/2 inches with her head. So she will go great in my 1 inch scale scene I think. I got her at a generic dollar store.

Go to Tanya's site and explore all the items she has made for her store - handbags from 3D stickers, belts and belt display rack , shoes and boots. You will get lost there!
